about

iiii Records and Small Scale Music are pleased to present 'Passing the Buck' by Brick Quartet with Yves Charuest.

In September 2015 the Canadian/New Zealand band Brick Quartet embarked on a mammoth tour of Canada - traversing the country performing concerts of improvised music as a quartet and in collaboration with a myriad of kindred spirits.
After performing in Montreal, Toronto, Hamilton, Kitchener, London (Ontario), Windsor, Guelph, Sudbury, Thunder Bay (x2), Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon & Petersborough, the group gave a final performance in Montreal at La Passe where they were joined by the legendary saxophonist Yves Charuest.

The complete concert presented here is intense and angular - fluid and spontaneous structures coupled with cunning and strategic sharing of energies, dynamics, noise and splintered rhythms.

Digital album comes with a pdf featuring an essay by Raphaël Foisy.

We would like to thank Yves once again for accepting to play with us seven years ago and to let us release this.

A very special thank you to Aaron Hutchinson for working on a previous master of this recording in 2016.

Thanks to Felix Lachance for being part of the initial incarnation of this group.

Special thanks to everybody that we played with on that tour (Tatsuya Nakatani, Joe Sorbara, Chris Dadge, Ben Grossman and Michael Mucci) and to all the people who gave us a place to play and/or sleep.

Thanks to Sophie Chartier, Mark Molnar and Charlotte Biron for their thoughtful comments regarding the liner notes

Love to the La Passe crew (forever).

Co-released by iiiirecords (iiiirecords.bandcamp.com)
